ANNOUNCEMENT Welcome to Wii U Reddit's source for news, pictures, reviews, videos, community insight, & anything related to Nintendo's 8th-generation console, the Wii U. Subreddit Guidelines HOVER FOR MORE INFO.All users are expected to be respectful to other users at all times. You just gotta get used to hitting the calibration button almost as much as you hit the fire button. They probably should've just scrapped the game when they realized that they had to make the calibration key a face button in order for the game to be playable.
You can get used to it (and it's honestly mostly a pretty fun game once you do), but when fighting the controls is literally part of the intended gameplay, maybe it's not the best idea for a game.(Incidentally, this is the game to point to when people say 'why isn't Skyward Sword on Switch. It only needs motion controls.'
However, 'Star Fox 64' released in 1997 for the Nintendo 64 console is established as the first actual canon game in the Star Fox series since it expands the story, plot, characters, etc.
That secret on-the-fly calibration via the IR sensor goes a long way and without it, you end up with Star Fox Zero.). It would need to have something stable in space to detect where it's facing and recalibrate, and the IR sensor alone wouldn't sensitive enough to just detect 'the ground' without some sort of additional IR accessory. The way it works in Skyward Sword is that, like any accelerometer-based motion controls, stuff gradually goes out of sync without something to keep things in check, so any time the Wii IR sensor bar catches the IR on the controller, it recalibrates so you never notice and shouldn't ever have to recalibrate manually, and unless you're constantly waving your sword around behind your back, it should almost always feel really close to 1:1. Right, aiming is a little less crazy in Splatoon though. But you can get used to the calibration button.
It's just a little odd getting used to having to recenter your position constantly when you're trying to play Star Fox, but the game is pretty fun once you get the hang of it. Not a masterpiece or anything but it works.
I never played with the Labo so I can't speak for how well that might work, but I like the tech.I think for Skyward Sword, if they don't release some sort of extra accessory and decide to port the game without just dedicating the sword to the right stick or something, my guess is they'd just have you hold a button to swing your sword. It won't be the constant 1:1 movement you get in the original, but it would be a quick cheap fix.
